• P45 or P60 — issued within the last 12 months

• Benefit or State Pension statement — issued within the last 12 months

• Letter from HMRC, the Department for Work and Pensions, a local authority or another government agency — issued within the last 12 months

• Current UK photocard driving licence, provided it shows the applicant’s current address

Documents must be in the applicant’s name and show their current residential address. Mobile phone bills, store-card statements and personal letters will not be accepted. Uploaded copies may be provided during the application process, but original documents must be presented and verified before employment begins.

British or Irish citizens:

• Current or expired British passport

• Current or expired Irish passport

• Current or expired Irish passport card

• UK or Irish birth certificate or adoption certificate, together with an official document showing the applicant’s name and National Insurance number

• Certificate of registration or naturalisation as a British citizen, together with an official document showing the applicant’s name and National Insurance number

The National Insurance evidence must have been issued by a government agency or previous employer, such as:

• P45 or P60

• HMRC letter

• DWP letter

• National Insurance number confirmation letter

• Payslip from a previous employer showing the applicant’s name and National Insurance number

Other nationalities:

Applicants will normally need to provide:

• A Home Office Right to Work share code and their date of birth, allowing Palm 2 Palm to complete an online check

• A current passport containing an eligible Home Office endorsement confirming permission to work, where manual checks remain permitted

• A current Immigration Status Document confirming permission to work, together with an official document showing their name and National Insurance number

• An Application Registration Card stating that employment is permitted, subject to verification through the Home Office Employer Checking Service

• A Home Office Certificate of Application or other confirmation of an outstanding immigration application, subject to a Positive Verification Notice from the Employer Checking Service

A Biometric Residence Permit or Biometric Residence Card cannot, by itself, be accepted as evidence of Right to Work. The applicant should provide a share code linked to their eVisa.

Primary DBS identity documents

• Current and valid passport of any nationality

• UK passport expired by no more than six months

• Home Office eVisa, accessed through the View and Prove service using an immigration-status share code

• Biometric Residence Permit showing indefinite leave to remain, indefinite leave to enter or no time limit; it may be used for DBS identity purposes for up to 18 months after expiry

• Home Office Application Registration Card, verified through the Employer Checking Service

• Current UK, Isle of Man or Channel Islands photocard driving licence, either full or provisional

• Original UK, Isle of Man or Channel Islands birth certificate issued within 12 months of birth

• UK or Channel Islands adoption certificate

Additional DBS identity documents

Where required as part of the DBS document combination, the following may also be used:

• Current non-UK photocard driving licence

• Valid UK paper driving licence issued before March 2000

• UK birth certificate issued more than 12 months after birth

• UK or Channel Islands marriage or civil partnership certificate

• HM Forces identity card

• HM Armed Forces Veteran Card

• UK, Isle of Man or Channel Islands firearms licence

• Valid card carrying the PASS accreditation logo

• Valid EEA national identity card

• Valid Irish passport card

• Valid UK-issued EHIC or GHIC

Financial and proof-of-address documents can then be used as supporting DBS documents. Under the usual DBS Route 1 process, the applicant provides:

• One primary document; and

• Two further documents from the permitted DBS document groups.

The documents collectively need to confirm the applicant’s identity, name and date of birth.Description text goes here
